The ingredients needed to make Porso millet and dal Idli:
- Take 2 cups porso millet,
- Take 1 cup wheat daliya,
- Take 1 cup saboot urad dal,
- Prepare 1 tspn of methi seeds
- Prepare to taste Salt
Grind millets adding water little at a time to a slightly coarse batter. My millet idlis are as tasty, soft and porus as rice idlis served with Chettinaad Kaara Chutney. Using a blender/mixie, first grind the dal and methi seeds till it becomes fluffy. Add very little water while grinding.
Instructions to make Porso millet and dal Idli:
- Soak porso millet, daliya,dal and methi seeds separately overnight
- Grind them all in the morning and mix together
- Keep for fermentation for 5-6 hours
- Add salt to taste And Mix well
- Grease the Idli mould - Keep the steamer ready
- Pour batter in the greased mould and place it in the steamer.
- Let it steam for 10-15 minutes - Take out when done
- Enjoy with coconut chutney
Blend the soaked millets and dal into a smooth batter adding as little as possible as needed. If using a mixie/mixer grinder, grind the batter in. Retailer of a wide range of products which include Pearl Millet, Porso Millet, Barnyard Millet, Foxtail Millet and Red Jowar. Proso millet is important minor millet grown in India. The crop is able to evade drought by its quick maturity.
