- Make ready 3 tsps gooseberry - (grinded without adding water)
- Get 1/4 cup coconut - (grinded into a paste adding little water)
- Prepare as required water -

Remove seeds from gooseberry and chopped into small pieces. Nellikka/ Gooseberry is best eaten raw, but most of the kids refuse to eat it raw. In that case try pickles, Amla chutney or even Amla in powder form mixed with Jaggery. You can also try soaking it in salt water (uppilittathu) with chilies (Kanthari mulaku).
Instructions to make Nellikka Meen Curry (Gooseberry Fish Curry):
- Heat a pan or earthen pot (manchatty) and add oil
- Splutter fenugreek seeds
- Add ginger & garlic slices and saute
- Add sliced small onion, slitted green chillies, curry leaves and saute till onion turns slight brown.
- Add turmeric and chilly powder mixed with a tsp of water.
- Add grinded gooseberry and saute well.
- Add salt, fish pieces and enough water to cook the fish.Cover and cook for 15 mins.
- Add coconut paste and allow to boil.
- Switch off the flame and drizzle some oil on the top.
