It is slightly greenish in color (color transferred from the banana leaves) and it goes with many dishes such as Satay Padang , Ketoprak , sometimes in Gado.

The ingredients needed to make Lontong (Rice Cake):
- Make ready 1 1/2 c long grain rice
- Get 6 c water (add more hot water if needed)
- Make ready 1 tbsp salt
- Prepare 1 sheet banana leaf (optional)
Ingredients Long Grain Rice, washed & drain well. Lontong is a cylinder look of rice cake that is traditionally wrapped in banana leaf and boiled until solid. Thou the translation is rice cake, this lontong is not for dessert. It's a kind of cooked rice substitution.
Steps to make Lontong (Rice Cake):
- Wash rice 2-3 times and put it in rice cooker.
- Add salt and water and turn on the rice cooker. If your rice cooker is too small add water (boiling hot) when the Cook button is off, and cook again.
- When it starts to bubble, stir every now and then. Cook until Keep Warm button is on.
- Lay a deep casserole dish with clean banana leaf.
- Put the very sticky wet porridge into the dish and spread it out. Cover with banana leaf and make sure to cover all corners. Cool it down.
- Serve this with Gado-gado (warm Indonesian salad), laksa/soto (coconut milk soup with meat), chicken/goat sate. I will upload the recipes later. In the photo I put chicken curry, chokoes-carrot-quail eggs veg in coconut milk.
