- When Pork is cooked, add Miso and Tofu. Remove the soup from the heat just before it starts to boil.
- Sprinkle finely chopped spring onions, and serve. *Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Powder) is also recommended to add extra flavour.

"Tonjiru" is usually made by stewing thinly sliced pieces of pork, alongside vegetables, in "dashi" The name "tonjiru" is said to be dominant in Eastern Japan, while the name "butajiru" is said to be more. Tonjiru (or Butajiru) is a kind of Miso Soup with pork and a lot of root vegetables such as Gobo (burdock root) and carrot. Even though it is a Miso soup, Tonjiru tastes very different from ordinary. Tonjiru (豚汁) is a hearty miso soup with pork slices and vegetables.
